Technical Architecture Board – My last post talked about some architectural presentation boards that are mostly weakly organized. I wanted to jump in this week’s post and discuss some presentation boards that are almost up to par but just needed a little tweaking. I have also noticed several Cervaries that we asked to visit the boards, edit them based on my criticism, which I thought was a good idea and so I tried to do in this post.
To begin with, the group of presentation boards was made in my last year of primary school for a competition held by Cranbrook Academy in 2007. The competition asked for four 20 “x20” boards. For the amount of work that was in this project, cramming so much information on four boards proved to be more difficult than I expected. On top of this, I always found it challenging to organize graphics on a square format. The four boards are designed to read well on their own, but also combine to each other when placed side by side. It was done by laying a simple grid and create panel-to-panel relations, such as using windows of the same size or overlapping background elements.
Technical Architecture Board
The first panel I revised was the top left spelling with a great illustrated space design. There are several things that immediately stand out for me.
Semester 1: Biag55 Design Studio: Implement
1. First, the diagrams on the left look out of place and out of place on the page. They see how they were waiting there to have I knew where to put them. There are probably a few tricks I can do to make them fit better on the page, however, I feel like they just don’t belong.
2. The main background image is also cool. I was at a stage where I avoided color at all costs. You can see this in my undergraduate portfolio, where the whole thing is in black and white. The problem with a mostly desaturated site design is that it looks lifeless. Although I saw it as artistic at the time, in fact, it does not project the plan in a positive light.
3. The text is lost in the background. I remember that I do this because I was afraid that the text would distract too much of the big image of the site design. But since I faded it and throw it on a busy part of the site design, the text becomes very difficult to read and almost becomes more and more distracting to the overall composition.
What I have done to solve the above mentioned issues is to simplify these things. Usually with intro panels, I like to keep them simple but strong. The site design I feel could be a powerful picture if areas. I pulled back the desaturation a little and added a green overlay. It only takes 10 minutes, but it really made a big difference. I also moved the diagrams of this page to another board. This has released several space to move the text around. I dark the black transparent box to help apart the text from the background so the two did not compete. I also set the scanned sketch right under the text as a way to finish the paragraph.

I think this Second Original Record has a decent layout. There is a lot of information about the design, but it is very difficult to read.
1. Floor plans are hard to understand. It was a hard part of the layout because the floor plans themselves are oddly shaped. So I had to fit them on the page as best I can without making them too small. There is also so much line work that it is difficult to decipher that is inside, which is outside, which is ramps, which is hallways, etc..
2. Along with the floor design, the bottom section is almost impossible to understand at a glance. Understanding this section is key to understand the plan of this project, so the section needs to read better than it is now.
3. The sketches on the left do not belong to this page. It is always important to integrate process work, but find a site to include it may be challenging.
Preservation Self-assessment Program (psap)
The first thing you could notice is that the diagrams of the first panel are replaced by the sketches on the second panel. It tells a more organized story about this project. Then I lightly shaded the floor plans. As subtle as this move is, it makes a big difference in how quickly someone can read and understand floor plans. Now things as inside against outside, floor openings, vertical circulation, etc. Can understand at first glance. Finally, I revised the sections and applied a technique popular on the site to add depth and clarity to the line work. Although I like the simplicity of just working with lines, adding a few shading goes a long way.
Be sure to check back next week. I’ll go back to the last two panels and discuss how to hold the to busy layout as seen in the third Render panel. If you are a person who likes to look at architectural drawings, it’s your lucky day.
At least I hope after reading this post you think that was your lucky day. I decided that one area I hope to focus on over the next year is better, more valuable, architectural content … and for me this means in a more technical direction. Although I do not consider themselves the most technical of architects, I consider the aspect of the profession to be part of my design consideration skills. I put considerable effort to think about how something would be built as part of the design process – rather than determining how something should look and then sort of reverse engineering my way upside down to the solution.
Anyway, today is the first of the more technically minded articles and I thought I would use a cabin project that I have working on for a while as one of the vehicles to show the information. But to start the process, we need to talk about two things:
Architectural Review Board: Nov. 14, 2024
This is my cabin project … and I mean “mine” in every sense of the word except that a) I’m not paid for it, and c) ryan thomason in my office has worked On this project as much as I. The project is far, overlooks a beautiful lake and is generally held a wonderful place to live.
One piece of information that can be worth noting is that there is no much competition for contractors here, and I do not have much experience working on projects in cold weather environments – something that has caused me to read a lot of technical white papers on Designing in heavy snow areas.
Another thing you should be aware of is that the place is difficult vudad – why you would not know of looking at any of the drawings I will be highlighting in today’s post. Yes, I just let them out because I want to show the project, not a million trees where it can be a kind of project.
The picture above is like the entire property looks like … I took this particular picture because I was 99% sure that I just saw Bigfoot walk through.
How To Present Floor Plans (interior Drawing), None Technical
Here it is – my project. The picture above is an approach and since the imageable track is so small (
The goal was to let every tree – all 2.37 million of them – untouched on this site
) The order in which the cabin will be built is also considered in the process. To the left is the garage with an insulated master bedroom suite and to the right is an open terrace that is covered by an elevated living / kitchen area. Through the covered terrace there is a major view of the lake – the “hole” in the ground floor is intended so that the existence of the lake should not be fully blocked by the cabin.
By working our way, you can better see – and hopefully better understands – the mass of the building. The main entrance to the cabin is in the corner where two rectangular masses intercect itself.

To get this particular view of the cabin, you would have to climb a tree – but – you can really do it in this place. The masing is quite simple, but we have strengthened it with the way we have decided to delay each component. The cabin will handivate all year, which meant that the maintenance requirements and durability of the chosen materials have to be taken into account. We chose to bet
